Liegt es an den Bienen? Bei den Aufnahmen wurde mit ausgetüftelten Zeitdehnungen gearbeitet, die aus dem Gewimmel erst wahrnehmbare Bewegung machen. Peter Scherer. More Than Honey Film More Than Honey Film

Such a big difference in how Europeans raise their bees and how we do over here, but much of the basics are the same. I set up my first hive of bees this spring and was looking to learn from anywhere I can.

It was actually very helpful in showing how easy it is to gather a swarm, which I had to do twice already this season. While that may not have been the purpose of the film, learning what to do and not to do from all angles is helpful.

One person found this helpful. I'm getting a hive of my own in a few weeks and was looking for a video I might share with others to familiarize them with what I was getting into.

People have issues with bees. The video follows several beekeepers around the world U. After watching this, especially the commercial beek who had his hives in the almond groves it about put me off any designs or desire to commercialize.

I can't see myself doing the sorts of things that this fellow did with his bees. This is not an easy film to watch for someone who likes bees and so I'm not sure how those who are already suspicious of having bees around might take it.

About half of the film is in German with English subtitles and half in English when shooting in English-speaking locations.

The extra footage on the dvd is just as fascinating as the rest. The best documentary about honey bees I have seen so far.

It has some astonishing visuals, such as the queen bee's mating flight, or the scout in search of a new home for the bee colony. It also contrasts commercial, CAFO-like beekeeping with traditional beekeeping.

In my opinion, the film captures most of the issues that have led to the massive disappearing of the bees we experience nowadays.

As a beekeeper who keeps bees for the sake of bees, I did find some parts of the film particularly disturbing.

One of them was the image of a bee falling off a flower, dying right after the almond orchard had been sprayed, another was the instant where traditional beekeeper Jaggi kills one of his queens because she has mated with a drone of a different color.

The filmmaker has cleverly combined images to make the viewer ponder over certain issues; for example, the image of the bee dying on an almond flower contrasts with the commercial beekeeper saying that spraying is not harmful to bees.

I also commend the filmmaker's choice to present opinions favorable to Africanized bees -- people need to stop fearing these bees. Overall, I think that "More Than Honey" does a wonderful job at pinpointing issues and inspiring the viewer to regard honey bees as more than just honey producers.

Honey bees are wonderful creatures and the documentary is well worth watching. I will definitely watch it again -- except for the part where Jaggi kills his queen, something I would never do to my queens See all reviews.

Top reviews from other countries. Not as good as "The Vanishing of the Bees" which covers the same subject in more comprehensive detail, but a useful addition the debate on climate change and the importance of bees to the natural processes which benefit the human race and what we will suffer in their absence.

Always easy to read about nature and bees in particular coming from an Apiarist, I'm obviously highly prejudiced!!!! Report abuse. Informative and moving.

Re: Bees; Our future depends on their future. Showing the global impact of bee-keeping in a well-constructed video that has excellent images throughout.

Never sensationalist,it just gives the facts. We humans and plants need bees. Fantastic photography. Disappointed that the film contained little about British bees especially about natural bee keeping.

Rate this movie Oof, that was Rotten. What did you think of the movie? The makers of this film did their homework and obviously spent many, many hours making this film.

The result is an entertaining and educational film suitable for a wide audience, whether they are familiar with honey bees or not. Joe Traynor.

Remarkably accurate! This is the most thoughtful and informationally comprehensive movie about the factual health challenges faced by honeybees today.

All various challenges are detailed, with no lame overtone of judgmental dogmatic perspective. This movie is a gem, which represents the hardships that bees, and beekeepers, go through in the annual bee cycle.

This film was well done. It was beautifully filmed with some absolutely amazing footage. It tells the modern story of bees and shows that our use of them can be exploitation.

Even some of the bee keepers that think they are treating the bees with respect are show, in a sublime way, that they actually aren't.

I liked that the film didn't give and conclusive reason for colony collapse disorder but showed it is most likely a lot of different issues including pollution.

It does pose the question that perhaps the bees we are exploiting for honey and pollination are just not healthy and that is the biggest reason for all for CCD.

I do find it strange the film didn't mention neonicotinoids which the EU has pretty much proven is a very large contributor to CCD.

Nevertheless, this is a complete film that shows the trouble bees are in, for many different reasons, from several different sides. Highly recommended.

Very interesting video and like all food for profit documentaries, the truth is usually pretty ugly. Just like Food Inc.

Backyard beekeepers hopefully will be more true to the bees and how they cycle through life. Similar to the way small farmers open range their livestock.

The photography is beautiful and the story helpful for those of us who are just starting out. Such a big difference in how Europeans raise their bees and how we do over here, but much of the basics are the same.
